The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is India's central agency authorized to conduct the Civil Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination, Combined Defence Services Examination, National Defence Academy Examination, Combined Medical Services Examination, Special Class Railway Apprentice, Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, Geologists' Examination, and Central Armed Police Forces (Assistant Commandant) Examination.

The exams for various departments take place in accordance with the rules laid out by the government of India.

UPSC Civil Services Examination eligibility details are mentioned below:

Nationality:
(1) For the Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service, a candidate must be a citizen of India.
(2) For other services, a candidate must be either:
(a) a citizen of India, or
(b) a subject of Nepal, or
(c) a subject of Bhutan, or
(d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age Limit:
A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years on 1st August, 2014, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1982 and not later than 1st August, 1993.
The upper age limit relaxations as per rule.

Minimum Educational Qualification:
The candidate must hold a Degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Number of Attempts:Maximum of 6 attempts are allowed. No restriction for SC, ST candidates and 9 attempts are allowed for OBC Candidates.
Physical Standards: The candidate must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination

Selection Procedure:
The competitive examination comprises two successive stages.
I. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examinations (Objective Type) for the selection of candidates for Main Examination; and
II. Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various services and posts.
The Main Examination will consist of written examination and an interview test.

Eligibility Criteria :

(a) Age (as on 01-07-2014):

Between 18 and 28 years. Candidates must have been born not earlier than 02/07/1986 and not later than 01/07/1996 (both days including) are only eligible to apply.

Upper age limit will be relaxed as per govt norms.

b) Educational Qualifications (as on 06-08-2014):

i) At least a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks (pass class for SC/ST/PWD candidates) in the aggregate and the knowledge of word processing on PC.

ii) A candidate belonging to Ex-servicemen category should either be a graduate from a recognized University or should have passed the matriculation or its equivalent examination of the Armed Forces and rendered at least 15 years of defence service.

iii) Candidates applying for post in a particular state should be proficient in the language of the state i.e. know to read, write, speak and understand the language.

HOW TO APPLY:

Candidates can apply online only from 16.7.14 to 6.8.14 and no other mode of application will be accepted.

Pre-Requisites for Applying Online

Before applying online, candidates should—

(i) scan their photograph and signature ensuring that both the photograph and signature adhere to the required specifications as given in Annex I to this advertisement.

(ii) if desiring to make online payment of application fees/ intimation charges keep the necessary details/documents ready (In case of Offline Payment i.e. CBS candidates have to apply online, obtain a fee payment challan and then remit the necessary application fees/ intimation charges).

(iii) have a valid personal email ID, which should be kept active till the declaration of results. RBI may send call letters for the Examination etc. through the registered e-mail ID. Under no circumstances, a candidate should share with/mention e-mail ID to / of any other person. In case a candidate does not have a valid personal e-mail ID, he/she should create his/her new e-mail ID before applying on-line and must maintain that email account.
